Yet they can burn even if fed a voltage in that range, if the mechanical load is too high, the worst being if the motor is simply blocked. If you feed them a voltage between 3V and 5V through a power silicium diode or two in series (that will each subtract 0.7V) and the load is a little propeller, there should be no problem. Check the temperature of the motor... On the other hand, if the motor is fed 5V directly and is connected to a gearbox that can stall and blockade, then it's a matter of seconds for the motor to fry. Maybe you can protect the motor by adding a power resistor in series. Also take into account that these motors can draw high currents, so they can actually also be a danger for the power supply. They are highly efficient and produce a tremendous amount of mechanical power compared to their small size and weight but with great power comes the need to be handled with respect.
